What is Automatic Voter Registration?

Protecting our democracy, and our fundamental right to vote, has never been more important. Our voting system should be modern, secure, and accessible to every eligible American, whether Democrat, Republican, or Independent.

Automatic Voter Registration (AVR) is a common-sense reform that seamlessly registers citizens to vote when they interact with government agencies like the DMV. All eligible citizens will be registered to vote, unless they choose to opt-out, when they apply for a driver’s license, disability or other public benefits, join the National Guard, or enroll as a CUNY or SUNY student.

AVR will make our voter rolls more accurate, save taxpayer dollars, and ensure that every eligible voter can make their voice heard on Election Day.
